SCHOOl Recycling
The majority of waste generated at schools is recyclable. Hosting a school wide recycling program not only helps the environment, it also helps the bottom-line. A recycling program provides students a sense of responsibility and creates a platform for recycling education.
Here are a few tips to get your school recycling program started:
- When starting the program, decide what will be collected first. Paper? Or other recyclables?
- Appoint a program coordinator – a suggestion is appointing an entire classroom.
- Communicate the program with the students and the parents.
- Arrange for pickup – contact the school’s waste hauler to determine if pick-up is available. Another option is to take advantage of the RRRASOC recycling drop-off centers, which are free and open to the public.
